Valuation Disclaimer

Draft for review

This document is a working draft prepared to be reviewed by a qualified lawyer. It is not legal advice, and some details (marked with brackets) still need to be finalised before publishing.

This is a draft prepared for review by a qualified lawyer. It is not legal advice.

Loupe helps you keep a private record of the designer handbags you own, and shows you an ongoing market-value estimate for each piece. Please read this disclaimer carefully, it explains what a Loupe estimate is, and, just as importantly, what it is not.

A market-value estimate, not a certified appraisal

Every value Loupe shows is a market-value estimate. It is generated automatically by software that compares your piece against recent resale ("comparable") sales data and applies statistical methods. It is an informational guide only.

A Loupe estimate is not:

  • a certified, professional, or independent appraisal;
  • a valuation prepared by a qualified valuer, gemmologist, or authentication expert;
  • a guarantee of the price you could buy, sell, or insure a piece for;
  • financial product advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to buy, hold, or sell anything;
  • confirmation that a piece is authentic; and
  • an offer, or a promise, by Loupe or anyone else to purchase your piece.

If you need a valuation for a legal, taxation, lending, probate, matrimonial, customs, or insurance-scheduling purpose that requires certainty, you should obtain an independent professional appraisal from a suitably qualified expert. Loupe is designed to be a companion to that process, not a replacement for it.

How the estimate is produced (and its limits)

Loupe estimates are produced using automated processing, including artificial-intelligence tools. In simple terms, Loupe looks at attributes of your piece (such as brand, model, materials, hardware, size, condition, and year), finds recent sales of comparable pieces, and calculates a central estimate together with a confidence level and the number of comparable sales the estimate is based on.

Because of this, an estimate:

  • is only ever as good as the data available, thinly traded, rare, or highly customised pieces will have fewer comparable sales and lower confidence;
  • can move up or down over time as the resale market changes;
  • depends on the accuracy of the details recorded for your piece, if attributes or condition are wrong, the estimate will be wrong;
  • cannot verify authenticity, provenance, or condition in the way a physical inspection can; and
  • may be affected by errors, gaps, or bias in third-party market data or in the AI models used.

Loupe always shows you the confidence level and the comparable-sales count alongside a value so you can judge how much weight to give it. Please treat a low-confidence estimate with particular caution.

Future-value projections are illustrative only

Where Loupe shows a projected or future value, that projection is illustrative and hypothetical. It is based on past market movement and general assumptions, it is not a forecast or a promise, and actual future values may be materially different. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Loupe is not an insurer and does not provide insurance

Loupe is not an insurer, insurance broker, or financial adviser, and nothing in the product is insurance, a promise of cover, or a promise of any payout. Loupe helps you organise documentation (such as receipts, appraisals, certificates, and photos) so that you are better prepared when you deal with your own insurer or valuer.

Any "valuation summary" Loupe generates is a documentation summary to support a conversation with your insurer or appraiser. It does not create, evidence, or guarantee any insurance cover, and it does not bind any insurer. Whether a piece is covered, and for how much, is determined solely by your own insurance policy and your insurer, not by Loupe. Always confirm cover, sums insured, and scheduling requirements directly with your insurer.

To the extent permitted by law

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Loupe gives no warranty that any estimate, projection, or report is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose, and Loupe is not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on an estimate, projection, or report. You rely on Loupe's estimates at your own discretion. This does not limit any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot lawfully be excluded, see the Terms of Service.
